Three top tips for upgrading your bedroom on a budget

Now we are 6 months deep into our “new normal” and spending the majority of our days in our homes, I know lots of you out there – me included – are desperate for an interiors upgrade without breaking the bank. There are loads of simple and inexpensive things you can do to your room to just give it the little uplift you’re looking for. Here are my three top tips for upgrading your bedroom (or any room really) on a budget.

Declutter

Simply tiding and decluttering can make your bedroom feel brand new. This simple task will make it feel calmer and more relaxing, you could even think about a small move around at this stage once you can see through the mess.

Decluttering doesn’t cost you anything – and you might even find some items you can sell through the process!

Change the colour scheme using accessories

I’ve said this before and I will say it again, the easiest and quickest way to keep your interiors looking fresh is to ensure the foundations are long term but your accessories can be changed quickly and at little cost. If you’ve got a neutral colour scheme at the foundation, adding some pops of green, navy or any other autumnal colour will give the room the attention it needs.

Invest in some new bedding, some cushions a few new lamps – or just lamp shades – and your room will have a new look and feel.

If you’re competing with a patterned wallpaper, choose some accessories carefully that pick out the colours in the pattern (see my blog on colour for more information on this subject!). Remember to choose accessories that will compliment rather than clash – your bedroom should be calm and relaxing.

Upcycle

Who doesn’t love a good upcycle project? Upcycling an old piece of furniture and bringing it back to life is all the rage now and it’s pretty easy to find tutorials to help you with it.

Upcycling furniture is great if you are on a budget. You can often grab a piece of furniture that is in need of some love for very little money – sometimes for free – and then transform it to add a much-needed upgrade to your bedroom scheme. Sometimes just adding new handles with some good styling is all an old piece of furniture needs.

An old chest of drawers with a lovely mirror placed on top in a bedroom can really add the "wow factor" and finish the space off – so don’t always assume you need to spend lots of money to create a luxurious home interior.
