A bathroom project can always be challenging. They usually come with hidden complications that can’t be foreseen but they can be even more challenging due to the size of the space you are designing. The benefit? Bathroom designs are usually epic and will blow your socks off. This master bathroom ensuite was just that. Think dark, yellowing bathroom transformed into ultimate sophistication and elegance through contemporary, modern design.

My clients had lots of bathroom ideas when I met with them. They wanted clean lines, minimal cleaning and had already been inspired by bathroom designs that were contemporary and modern. The space needed to work really hard for what they wanted to achieve. I spent a long time working on the configuration and finding a furniture supplier that could design to the space we needed.

The bathroom designs went through a number of iterations, I started with the concept direction and then focused my attention on making the space work well, ensuring there was enough movement and all the elements were included that the client wanted.

Below is the original concept I presented to my client:

My client loved the concept board direction so I started to work on the bathroom design and layout, investigate what suppliers could deliver the size, quality and finish that I was looking for based on the bathroom ideas I had for the concept direction. This project was delivered to a high-specification so every element in the space needed to be good quality. Working with Porcelanosa, I found some amazing tiles for this space – I went for floor tiles on the walls too that were the same size as the floor tiles so the grout lines were seamless. I also added in a chrome trim through the full height tiles and then continued to edge the half-height tile edges. This is relatively cheap to do and really adds a wow factor to a bathroom.

For the rest of the bathroom design, I kept to elements neutral, clean and elegant – balancing tones of neutrals to create a beautiful space.

Here is the final design scheme the client signed off.

As with any bathroom design, it really relies on the suppliers and tradesmen to execute it to the standard you are looking for as a designer.
